Family therapy

Parents and grown children, in one room or in two

For families who want to understand each other better, and who want to decide together who is in the room.

A family session is 80 minutes. We usually meet first with the person who wrote to us, then decide with them who else to invite. Everyone in the room is an adult, and each person speaks in the language they are most at ease in. Your therapist does not take sides, and does not decide for you.

  • Family systems therapy

A method from Murray Bowen's work, taught through the Bowen Center for the Study of the Family, that looks at the whole family and not one person.

What this is not

  • A way to settle a family argument by vote

  • Therapy for a child or teen on their own

  • A place where one person is made to apologize

  • An emergency or crisis service

Length, pace and cost

What to expect, and how it is paid

  • Length and pace

Sessions are 80 minutes, often every two or three weeks. Your therapist sets the pace with the family, and nobody promises a set number of sessions.

  • How it is paid

Insurance, self-pay, receipts and a written estimate are explained in one place, and you will see your fee in writing before you start.

    How fees work
  • Who you meet

Savita or Neeraj, depending on language and schedule. A second therapist is not added without your say.

Three questions

About family therapy

Can we use different languages in the same session?

Yes, if your therapist speaks them. A parent may speak Gujarati and a grown child English, and the therapist can work with both.

Do I have to bring my whole family?

No. Many family sessions are two people. We decide together who joins and when.

What if a family member does not want to come?

Then the session goes ahead with the people who do. Nobody is pressured, and we will not contact anyone for you.

Write to us to begin

Tell us which language you would like to use and who you would like in the room. We reply within one business day.
